A Sydney house for sale for $1.8 million on Sydney’s south-west has been described as “a gem”.
The house on St John Street in Yarraville, which is being advertised for $500,000, is listed on the listing agent’s website and has an opening price of $4,500, according to listings agent and real estate broker Zalie Zalinski.
But there’s a catch: the house is a one-bedroom, two-bath, two bathroom home with a ground floor and two-storey living and dining room, which has an interior of the same size as a typical Sydney house, she said.
“This is not a very big house, it’s a small town, you don’t need much space to get a house built,” she said, adding the home was also located in a rural area.
The listing agent said it was a small house with “the same character as a normal house”.
“We like the fact that it’s not big and it’s close to our town,” she told ABC Radio Sydney.
“So it’s quite popular and there’s lots of potential there.”
The listing includes amenities including a kitchenette, two bedrooms, a full bathroom, an outdoor deck, a large living area, a swimming pool, a gym, and a laundry room.
It’s also listed as having a garage.
“It’s one of those things that people do and they go and buy a house, they’re not too happy with it, they want to upgrade and that’s what we’re going to do here,” she added.
Mr Zalinksi said he had sold a number of houses in the past, including one in Sydney’s northern suburbs.
“You see people looking for that one big house in Sydney that they can have a family, that they want and they can work in and it works well,” he said.
Mr O’Connell, the owner, said the house was a one bedroom, two bath house with a lot of natural light.
“We were lucky enough to have a few of those,” he told ABC radio.
“The whole thing is very, very small and we’re lucky that it is in the right location, it sits on an old site.”
Mr O-Connell said he was also looking to sell a nearby property.
“I’ve been looking for a bit of land, we’ve got a lot going on,” he added.
The Sydney house has a small backyard and a small yard, but Mr Zalowski said he believed the home would be well-suited for a family of four.
“When we moved into the house we had the main bathroom and we had a separate bedroom,” she explained.
“But we had an ensuite so we had one bathroom.”
She said the backyard was well-used by young people who needed a place to relax.
“That’s why we had so many kids in the house, we wanted to be able to have some privacy and not worry about everyone coming and going,” she stated.
